Pressure Cooker Injury Lawsuits

Houston Pressure Cooker Injury Lawsuit Attorney

Negligent Manufacturers Must Be Held Accountable

At-home cooking is a huge industry, and pressure cookers are made by multiple companies. Due to the rate of pressure cooker explosions and the resulting burn injuries, people have found out the hard way that safety features do not always prevent dangerous situations from occurring while cooking. Pressure cooker manufacturers claim that their pressure cookers are safe to use, but they are not. In recent years, numerous lawsuits have been filed against many of these manufacturers, alleging that the safety features promoted in advertisements fail to prevent the lids from being removed while there is still pressure inside the cooking chamber. When this happens, extremely hot liquids in the cooker can explode and cause long-lasting and life-altering injuries such as burns, scalds, and steam burns to those nearby. If you or your child were the victim of a pressure cooker burn or explosion, or another injury, you may be entitled to benefits and financial compensation.

What Is a Pressure Cooker & How Do They Work?

Cooking aides such as rice steamers, crock pots, gas-powered camping stoves, and pressure cookers have been around for decades. Originally, they were made only for restaurant settings. In recent times, there has been a surge in people using these devices in their homes. In general, pressure cookers consist of a cooking chamber with a lid that forms an airtight seal when properly closed. As the contents of the cooker are heated with the lid properly in place, the temperature within the cooker rises beyond the boiling point. In some instances, the temperature rises to over 250 degrees Fahrenheit. When the rise in temperature is produced, that is how the food is cooked.

Releasing the Pressure Prior to Opening Steamer

The pressure within the cooking chamber needs to be safely released before removing the lid. Pressure cookers have vents designed to allow pressure to safely escape from the cooking chamber. Modern pressure cookers also have features that are supposed to allow steam and pressure to be quickly, as well as safely, released in the event of an emergency. These safety features do not always work, and explosions resulting in extreme heat and force can happen.

How Do Pressure Cookers Explode?

It is extremely difficult, if not outright impossible, for home chefs and those who use defective pressure cookers to know if it is safe to open the lid after cooking. This is what has led to many of the accidents that are now the subject of pressure cooker injury lawsuits.

Liability in Pressure Cooker Injury Claims

Lawsuits filed against pressure cooker manufacturers claim that the safety features do not work. They are designed to keep the cooker sealed while there is still pressure in the chamber. This does not always happen, as the safety mechanisms do not, in fact, prevent the lid from being prematurely or unexpectedly opened.

Lawsuits are filed against the maker of the defective product. They built the product and are liable for any injuries, property damage, medical expenses, and pain and suffering that the victim endured in the explosion.
